Santo Domingo.- The Senate Wednesday amended the Law to Develop the Mortgage and Trust Market as submitted by the Executive Branch, which will allow the use of a percentage of the workers’ pension fund for housing construction.

The legislation, which has been eyed warily by the labor unions and other sectors, will now return to the Chamber of Deputies, after the Executive Branch objected some points which had been added, and suggested others.

Among the bill’s supporters figure the Dominican Commercial Banks Association (ABA); the Dominican League of Savings and Loans Associations, the economic sector, the Savings and Credit Banks Association (ABANCORD), as well as the Government.

President Leonel Fernandez’s missive for the piece affirms that the law seeks to develop the mortgage and trust market, and will reduce the residential deficit with the construction of low cost houses for the middle and lower classes.

He said it will also lead to the creation of financial figures to develop housing construction, to be subsidized by the State as well, reducing all taxes on construction as well as in the purchase of houses.

Don't Do It !!! Theres's not enough income per household, 71% of the nation makes less than 15k a month and 61% of that make less than 10k monthly, a person needs at least 18k to live without worries...Plus leo's words of advise have no value and is only directed to the 29% that makes more than 15k monthly

Besides the banks, how will the people(71% making less than 15k) that can't afford a mortgage, benefit from this ? Low income housing projects don't count, it doesn't belong to the people, if rent has to be paid.

The banks would never let that happen it that were the true intent of the government.

Unfair competition in a sector traditionnally exclusive to the banks, savings unions and...shylocks.

True intent is to steal that money before August 16 2012.

fritz:
That is providing you don't get real sick were you would have to visit a Dr a few times a month and for you to buy your own medication for a long time.
DR should do like Costa Rica were you have at least 200,000 Gingos and they made it possible for them to use their medicare card as primary and a secondary would always follow medicare providing you have one along with mail order pharmacy from the STATE, That is the way to go.
