Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Electricity Industry Association (ADIE) is concerned about the high accumulated debt and the delays in paying the generating companies. The amount owed currently surpass the 903 million dollar mark.

The association stated that the level of the current expired debt is four months, taking into account the debt that will expire next week.

The ADIE believes that the current administration of the Dominican Corporation of State Electricity Companies (CDEEE) has made an effort to reduce the debt accumulated to date, but so far this has been fruitless.

“Meeting the debt commitments is the only guarantee for ensuring the sustainability of the electricity system in the short term, as well as allowing for new investments to be made in the electricity subsector,” declared the entity.

ADIE is calling on the electricity sector authorities to fulfill the promises made on paying the debt. They recall that as part of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the government committed to paying the generating companies within 45 days.

The CDEEE was complying with this agreement.

Saving money and owing money are two different things. Celso has done, and is doing a great job considering the shafting he has taken from LF.

LF's greatest legacy is the monumental debt with which he is leaving us.

And where is the money saved and announced by CDEEE? If it is true because the savings do not apply to this delay? these announcements concerned, only seek to discourage foreign investment, only way to survive expensive power generators, but not leave the country, each delay generates considerable interest and has always paid, will understand normalized thing with the new agreement with the IMF ................. or is a reissue of the Madrid agreement being sought.

The debt would had been 2.9 billions... One thing is money invested in new plants and infrastructure, and another thing is money used to subsidy the electric bill.

So, that money does not go to improve the system, just to pay for all the parasitos que se roban the electricity!

Danilo Medina is saying that el Mamagronomo Hipolito Mejia will be ignored... Por mas que grite y patalee...

8-)

SALAMI for him!

It really doesn't matter how much they owe those companies at this point. The only thing people should be asking themselves is at what point is the DR going to start using Coal or other cheaper sources to create electricity. using Diesel,Gas or whatever they use to run those generators is like mopping Your floors with purified water, Just doesn't make any sense !
