In delayed meeting, labor says won’t swap benefits for raise

Santo Domingo.- The meeting of the National Wages Committee began Wednesday morning with an hour-and-a-half delay, in which workers demand a 30 percent increase on the minimum salary, while management seeks to abolish workers’ severance pay.

The delay came as employers were late to the meeting taking place at the Labor Ministry.

As of yesterday Tuesday management representatives had yet to announce a definite proposal on the salary increase, while labor leaders had warned they’ll not negotiate the severance pay or other workers benefits in exchange for an increase.
