Pipes for Puerto Plata treatment plant arrive in Samaná

Samana, Dominican Republic.- Over 3,000 meters ofpolyethylene pipe to be used to install an "outfall" at Puerto Plata arrivedat Arroyo Barril port Friday, which aims to contribute to keep the beaches andthe city clean.

The six tubes, 520-meters long each were hauled in by an Englishtugboat which arrived at 11:20am after a 40-day crossing from Norway.

The ship with the pipes was received by Temistocles Montas,head of the Economy Ministry, government agency said in a statement.

“The pipes form part of a water treatment plant being builtat a cost of RD$74.3 million, to discharge treated water more than threekilometers into the sea at a depth of 60 meters.”

Leopoldo Pellon,president of the project’s contractor Samasa, said the pipes total 3,120 meters.
