I will advice you not to download or look for that music because its garbage and only for ignorant people.

I will second that motion. That is the type of music you definitely do NOT want to listen to. It's pagan and used to invoke demons at best.

Now, classical music... that's a different story. Although I have to admit, I didn't know we had classical music. I know we have classical musicians, but not our very own classical music.

RE: Palos dominicanos y música clásica
Hola foristas.

I'm sorry but saying that, that music is ignrant makes you both ignorant. This music is not to summon demons or of witch craft for that matter. This music is from our roots, it's our folkure from being indian. That is very disrispectful to say... and by the way if it did call evil spirits, we should all be suffering by now, because it is traditional dominican music. smh....

"it's our folkure from being indian".

WTF???? Are you going to say that dominicans use curry in their food?

For those of you interested in our rich musical heritage, I have a few suggestions as to how to best experience and learn about them. On any given friday you can visit Villa Mella and find fiesta de Palos in a lot of Comaldones. During the month of July there is a series of festivities starting with the feast of San Santiago, followed by Santa Ana and Santa Marta. In towns like Bani, Santo Domingo, San Francisco de Macoris, Santiago, Navarrete and Esperanza you will find lots of feasts with live drumming for days on end. On September 29 the feast of Saint Michael is the biggest of them all starting with overnight vigils at the colonial temple in Santo Domingo and culminating with a massive gathering to play, sing and dance palos in his honor. In NYC there are Palo themed nights at many clubs all year long. Our most famous performer of this music is Enerolisa Nunez and her Grupo de Palos de Mata Los Indios. She's also performed with many artists such as Elenita Santos, Mirian Cruz, Xiomara Fortuna and Kinito Mendez. She has traveled to many countries to showcase this unique cultural expression of our AfroDominica heritage.
La Asociasion Cultural Bayahonda has released 3 volumes of Musica Raiz. These compilations gather many of our AfroDominican musical rithyms like Palos, Salves, Congos and more. Los Marassa is another group that has a very nice collection of songs with excellent vocals and drumming. More recent Rita Indiana has made a huge impact in urban music by utilizing a basic palo beat layered with merengue mambo, electronica and rap.
