NEW YORK.- Police and officials of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in Long Island’s Suffolk County seized 35 fighting roosters during a raid which concluded a five month investigation.
Also arrested were 33 bettors and spectators, who were fined and released by police, and a man and a woman, charged with being the ringleaders of the illegal gambling ring.
In addition to rescuing the roosters at the site located at Mile Road in Central Islip, the police confiscated equipment used to prepare the fighting birds, scales, spurs and seats for the spectators.
Pablo Lopez and Rosa Madero face criminal charges of breaking the law against the use of animals in fights.

I think the implication is that they were Dominican or that at least some Dominicans were involved, otherwise it would not make much sense for DT to even make mention of it. Regardless of their Nationality, Cock-Fighting is a blood-sport that only promotes greed, violence and the mistreatment of animals. It is similar to Dog-fighting in that nature. I am a American Pit Bull enthusiast and there are just too many losers and buffoons ruining the Breed and destroying the image of an otherwise great dog. I understand that Cock-Fighting is 'traditional' in some places, and you have to respect culture and tradition, but NOT at the expense of life - animal or human.

well i use to live in long island. this happen in suffolk country the eastern part of the island. lots of farm land in this county. many people from latino countries, this is not a 1st. many bring their habits with them to the u.s.
their are laws in the u.s. that are enforced for everyone not only for the people that want to have cokfights in their back yeard, many groups of people in the states that protect animals. they have their rights also u know.
this is the law in the states if one is not happy with them just maybe they should go back to their country and then they can continue in this business.
