The USGS said the tremor was a 5.0.
SANTO DOMINGO. - A 5.3 magnitude tremor shook Dominican Republic at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday, the Santo Domingo State University’s UASD Seismology Institute reports.
The slight quake panicked mostly those who live or work in the taller buildings in Santo Domingo, but didn’t lead to evacuation in the Acropolis Center, whose 22 stories makes it one of the city’s highest.
The quake comes just two days after a group of University of Columbia experts warned that the country is at risk of undergoing a similar event as that which devastated Haiti last year.

DR has been relatively lucky when it comes to natural disasters. We've been blessed in that regard. I know there's been a few bad ones but nothing too catastrophic. If something were to happen though DR would be hit extremely hard let's not kid ourselves...

The pacific plate is moving under the north american plate and the north american plate ends right in front of the Dominican republic north coast there are two faults running along the island, in the north starting in Haiti and passing through the central mountain ridge. Old La vega was destroy by a powerful earthquake during the 40's,the second fault is the one that runs from Jamaica through Haiti and the Dominican Rep it runs strait through Puerto Prince so if the North american plate is being lift up by the Pacific plate and the pacific plate joins the coco's plate which also joins the caribbean plate and the south american plate all that stress forces the one in between (the caribbean plate) to subdue also into the north american plate therefore beaches will become larger and there where there was not beach one will form as the north american plate get lift up,bad news is with a powerful jolting all that mass of water of the atlantic can cause a worse tsunami than the one in Japan

ElBuscoon, people on this blog have no clue what HARP is. You are talking way above their heads. Even if they do research it, the fools will remain in denial.

elBuscoon you mentioned saturday the 19th,is it because of the super moon effect on the tides?
Nothing has happen in the atlantic ridge yet except hurricanes and recently dead fish in NJ which also happen to appear in Redondo beach,CA before the earthquake before the Redondo beach fish event was the volcano eruption in Hawaii, last year the volcano eruption was in Iceland but fishes and birds did not start to die until the start of this new year, so watch the animals also.
