Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry’s Electric System Prosecutor (Pégase) filed fraud charges against the BQ Hotel (formerly Delta), owned by the realtor Tacubaya.

The Hotel’s owners are accused of tampering with the meter to show a lower consumption for each month.

Pegase prosecutor Moses Ferrer said the electricity distributor company EDESUR was cheated out of more than RD$11.0 million, according to the evidence filed in the National District 5th Instruction Court.

The official said the evidence clearly shows that the hotel’s owners were clearly sought to consume the electricity illegally.

Everyone that uses electricity must pay based on their usage. The problem with the sector will never be solved unless the thieves are held accountable. Everyone: rich, middle class and poor.

Accused?

Hundreds of people are accused.

Convicted? If you don't have the money to buy your way out, you might be convicted.

It seems like the big business, rich, and the corrupt government officials are the ones mainly stealing the electricity. I am sure some of the poorest also do but in our barrios in Santiago I do not see people stealing electricity except from a neighbor who must in turn pay for it. This shows where the big problem is.

Very Expensive???? $79 a night is expensive???? That is a bargain in Santo Domingo. It is my regular hotel now when visiting the capital....considerably cheaper than Jaragua or Holiday Inn.
