SANTO DOMINGO.- The Judicial Branch Council (CPJ) will hold a disciplinary hearing Friday against three Santiago judges accused of misconduct on the bench.

The JCP has been firing judges at a breathtaking pace since the start of the year, when the new Supreme Court justices were inducted, the case of San Cristobal Sentencing judge Francisco Mejia Angomas standing out.

Justice of the Peace in Santiago, Rosa Luisa Garcia Polanco, Coordinator judge Gabriel Marchena and province instruction judge Agueda del Carmen Garcia face disciplinary measures.

The CPJ accuses Garcia Polanco of handing down, without a hearing, 7 bench resolutions refusing to incarcerate or issue high bond for cases of drugs, fraud, weapons and homicide.

Marchena meanwhile, is accused by the Movement Life without Violence, coordinated by Susi Pola, of releasing a man accused of stabbing his wife in the heart to death in the presence of his three children. The CPJ says he acted irresponsibly and inconsistency disregarding the seriousness of the facts.

Garcia is accused of appointing private attorneys "of her preference" to weigh issuing bonds or ruling incarceration and other measures, in which a Public Defender had already been assigned.

Josean is the first time in the history of our replublic some sort of measure are starting to take place. Maybe it was about time that someone like Danilo came to power to cut the head off of those not doing their jobs which they are paid dearly to do. Hipolito would it just put in Jail anyone that dare to say anything bad against him, if not we can ask Marino Sapete that was arrested for disclosing the news that Hipolito was building a huge house in San Cristobal.

I hope Danilo does clean house and doesn't get scared of the generals like LF did. Make a huge dent in corruption and our country will be in much better shape. I always say corruption is our greatest problem and while it will be difficult if not impossible to rid ourselves of it at least we can make a good effort and really clean house. Not just firings but take back all assets of those found to be corrupt.Take their assets and all their family and friends assets of anyone proven to be making their money by drugs and corruption in this country. The government will have a surplus of money if this is done to pay honest wages for police and educators.

They didn't mention whether these judges are Full-Time or Part-Time, it would make a hell of a difference.

Believe me, Mr. Medina knows were all the skeletons of corruption are buried especially as he said in 2008 when Lie-onel Stabbed him in the back and stole the nomination using the resources of the state!

His famous words were I was DEFEATED by the STATE!

Josean - payback time. Maybe danielle will find some of the big homes and condos do not have real titles.

I almost opened an IT office in Santiago but after all the graft I would be losing money. Fix the corruption.

"Take their assets and all their family and friends assets of anyone proven to be making their money by drugs and corruption in this country."

Absolutely, Veronica. And jail them for a long time.!

It does not matter what the reason is, it could be fear of losing jobs, but those in power are now doing what they were supposed to do.
I suspect they, (govt. employees and appointees), are realizing Medina's dead serious about fighting corruption and drug trafficking.
Medinas reputation is getting ahead of himself! Apparently, the word is out that he's a no-nonsense guy who'll kick ass, once he assumes power. I've got a good feeling about him. I think we may be looking at four years of peace and prosperity!

Lets see How Saint Medina deals with the PURPLE Cosa NOSTRA!

"PLD: Keeping it in the family"

With Danilo Medina now to become President, the influence of certain families within the ruling party, the PLD has increased and become more entrenched. Without doubt, at the top of the list are the Pared Perez and Lizardo Mezquita families.

In the case of the Pared Perez family, Medina's right-hand man is Carlos Pared who says he will not be working in any administrative role as he will be working exclusively with the President. His brother, Reinaldo Pared Perez is the president of the Senate and secretary general of the PLD and is reported to be one of the group of legislators who will resign their positions to join the Judicial Consultancy Group of the Executive Committee or the Attorney General's office. Sigfrido, the third in the group, is the closest member of the military to the president-elect, and it is assumed that he will have a significant role.

Looking at the Lizardos, Simon is considered the second most trusted man by Medina and he is expected to have a key position in the next administration. Cristina is the vice president of the Senate and a member of the Transition Commission, as is her brother.

The influence of the Montas family in the three Leonel Fernandez governments has been consistent. The most influential of the four is Temistocles who has been head of the Government economic team over the last eight years. His brother Ruben has been at the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidoma) and the National Energy Commission, Jose was mayor of San Cristobal and Gamalier was provincial governor and is a former deputy.

The German Mejia family is headed up by Alejandrina German, Minister for Women and one of the most influential ministers in the PLD; her husband, Jose Maria Sosa is the senator for San Pedro de Macoris and her brother in law Emigdio Sosa is the director of the Government Social Plan. Dr. Mariano German Mejia is president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) and is Alejandrina's brother, as is Engineer Mariano German who is director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewers (Inapa).

The Rojas Gomez family also has several members in powerful positions. Health Minister Bautista Rojas is the most prominent, despite the fact that sources close to Medina say that he has said he does not want to continue in that role. His brother Onofre has held senior positions in previous PLD governments, although he distanced himself from the party in the last elections. His cousin, Luis Rene Canaan, is the senator for Hermanas Mirabal province.

Alma Fernandez and her sister Luisa are high-ranking government officials, as are Euclides Gutierrez and his wife Flavia Garcia.

The Castillo Seman family has wielded political influence for decades, dating back to the first Balaguer administrations. Although only Marino Vinicio Castillo has held public office, his son Pelegrin is a deputy and Immigration Director Jose Ricardo Taveras is also a member of the family.
