Santo Domingo.- President elect Danilo Medina yesterday said he’ll announce his new Cabinet on August 16, after his inaugural ceremony in both houses of Congress, but noted that the country has “many heads and a few hats."

Medina, who returned to the country after a tour of several South American countries, also noted that he has neither received nor accepts pressure from anyone, reference to people who seek posts in his incoming administration.

He said it’s a ruling PLD party tradition to announce the formation of the cabinet after the president elect takes the oath. "After taking the oath in Congress we will go to the National Palace where we’ll announce at least the top ministers and government officials."

"People are relying on me, on the decision I have to take, and you know that this is a country with many heads and few hats," Medina said at Las Americas Airport, where he was met by the deputy Nelson Guillen, and senior aides Ruben Bichara, Carlos Cota Lama, and other party leaders.

Fruitful trip

Medina called his 8-day trip to Colombia and Brazil very fruitful and said he’ll announce the agreements reached with both presidents precisely on August 16, adding that they are extremely important for the country. "As you know, I have a series of campaign commitments ranging from expansion of education, welfare, the case of energy, public safety and other projects which involve funds to implement."

that Danilo, being from of the same party, would be an internal adversary and could break the circle of power he created around Congress, Judicial Branch, the Armed Forces, The Police, The Newspapers, Church, expresses Juan TH”

The Following is the full article from Juan TH on the attempts by the President of the Republic to seek an agreement with Hipólito Mejía.

WHAT IS NOT BE SEEN

By Juan T H

Leonel Fernandez leaves National Palace with armor of steel that no one, not even Danilo Medina, who he made President of the Republic to avoid setbacks in the courts, can touch or prevent him from trying, as we know, to return to power within four years.

Leonel tried in various ways, to negotiate impunity and complicity with Hipólito Mejia. If the presidential candidate of the PRD had made a secret pact with Leonel to prevent Danilo from winning the election, as Miguel Vargas did with Leonel so that Hipólito would not win, today he would be the President-elect. But Hipólito, contrary to what did Miguel, did not want to negotiate with Leonel to not betray his principles, or betray the hopes of the people for Justice.

Leonel didn't want Danilo to be to President of the. He understand, as jis closests colaborators, that Danilo, being from of the same party, would be an internal adversary and could break the circle of power he created around Congress, Judicial Branch, the Armed Forces, The Police, The Newspapers, Church, etc.

As of August 16th, the one that that will sign decrees appointing and deposing, that will mannage the national budget, the Almighty God of the country, will be Danilo, the man of the deep South.

Leonel wanted Hipólito to be the President of the Republic because that way his leadership within the P LD would not be at risk, or in doubt. With Hipólito as President Leonel would be the undisputed leader of the opposition. Leader and owner of the PLD, the Congress, of Judicial Branch, of the press, part of the Catholic Church and even the entrepreneurs. With Danilo that will notbe the case. The political Committee and the Central Committee, which before belonged to Leonel, because he appointed them and enriched them, are now, Danilo’s.

And as if that were not enough, Danilo represents the continuity in Government. The fourth consecutive term Will be uphill a, as Leonel is leaving a country in ruins, indebted to hilt, with high levels of unemployment, high cost of living, crime, drug trafficking, corruption, etc. The legacy of Leonel for Danilo and the country is grim. Explosive I would say.

If Danilo fails the PLD fails. Leonel fails and it frustrates his perverse aspirations to return to the government. The leader of the opposition will not be Leonel, it is, of course, Hipólito. That's one of the reasons why Leone,l using Miguel Vargas, wants to destroy or divide the PRD.

You, dear reader, do not know, that Hipólito returned to Leonel more than one "piece of paper", more than one sealed and ultra-secret letter. He dismissed more than one messenger with empty hands and a resounding no. Far from negotiating, Hipólito took a firmer stance against corruption.

That attitude was what unified Leonel and its people, around Danilo,. That decision was what unified the Palace Group, not in favor of Danilo, but against Hipólito who was promising to put them in jail for steal the money of the people. Danilo or jail. There was no choice.

If Hipólito had made an agreement with Leonel and his team of mobsters, today he would the president elect. They would not have stolen the election. Some Ministers linked with corruption were willing to invest untold sums in the electoral campaign for the benefit of Hipólito. But the candidate of the PRD did not want that money. On the contrary, he threatened to send them to the courts soon as he became President of the Republic.

Faced with this choice, the money they would invest in favor of Hipólito, they spent it in favor of Danilo. Hipólito left them no option. Danilo became secure change for the corrupt of the Palace.

Anyway, it is good to wait. For Leonel and his people their shot could end up coming out of the stock.

“In less than 6 months Public Works has Spent almost 80% of 2012 budget”

“There are regions where the money spent until May was more than what was budgeted for 2012, generating deficit”

"The Money wasted on the campaign is the cause of the indebtedness and imminent tax reform that will compel you to pay more taxes"

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-Documents on the execution of the budget for the Ministry of Public Works reveal that in the first six months they spent almost all of what was budgeted for the year 2012, mainly due to the spending during the months prior to the presidential election of 20 May.

Visiting a country mixed in drugs like Colombia s not in itself an admission of corruption but certainly is keeping with the current status of a major cocaine hub. But in all honesty it's been this way for a minute no matter who hold the rains.
The drug trade is alive and well and leaving Caribbean Islands in ruins, DR is the "right now". You can live large in DR with big dollars, But as Jamaica, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico would agree the tourist begin to stay away and it gets worse.

"By their deeds they will be known" Wait until August 16 TH when Danilo Medina takes over the helm, to form an opinion.
The 10 million plus citizens of the DR are awaiting for new and fresh faces, and not the same o, same o.
I have my hopes high that Danilo will start issuing presidential decrees, that suggest a radical change in the previous PLD laissez faire policies, regarding corruption and limitless governmental spending.
He will have to convey a message of "mano dura" regarding criminality, and that he will not be anyone's puppet president, either past or future, similar to the current Putin comeback in Russia, orchestrated by the previous PM Medevev.
Danilo will need the support of all Dominicans of all citizens, including the ones that voted for a change, and not necessarily the ones that wanted to climb in the food pyramid, from the benefits, cronyism and clientelism of Hipoloco Mejía and the rest of the PRD's Ali Baba's gang of hungry desperadoes.

It is very difficult for a new president freshly in office to go after some of his own backers, and previous PLD buddies, that carry the obvious stench of government corruption. But this necessary step, to at least placed them in a serious and impartial investigation, and make an independent accounting of their present assets, before and after. The DR public is demanding this, and Danilo must bite the bullet, and swallow this tough proposition, and persecute and go after the corrupt, even though they might have been his most prominent financial backers. Although it is not wise to "bite the hands that feed you", his survival and future as a politician that will leave a historical legacy, and be a great example for future generations, similar to the PRD's Antonio Guzmán, when he showed more balls than any previous Dominican president, getting rid of the Trujillo and Balaguer corrupt political-military high brass, in one stroke of his mighty pen.
This message must be sent now, not later.

Professor,

I Truly hope I am wrong for the sake of the Millions of Dominicans that have been screwed since 1492.

But Danilo will just be more of the SAME ONLY WORSE!

Even if he was to miraculouslydevelop a pair and initiated legitimate prosecutions against his fellow party mobsters and assuming they reach trail, they would have to go through the PURPLE Guantlet of Lie-onel Fernandez’s hand-picked a tailored courts.

As you say, usually no one bites the hands that feed them; Llie-onel is not going to allow Danilo to bit the hands that are going to feed him the nomination for 2016!

Danilo has painted himself into a PURPLE corner with his Rhetoric of “I Will Do What has Never Been” now the Dominican People are going to hold his Feet to the Fire but Lie-onel will prevent him from trying to upstage him and challenge his IMPERIAL SUPREMACY over the PLD!!

Just got a call from my niece who lives in a “gated” development in west Santo Domingo with “24 hour security,” last night she went to her in-laws and stayed the night, got a call this morning that they broke into her house and they stole her laptop computer, her 40” flat screen as well as her sons flat screen TV, DVD player a cable box, three pairs of sneakers among other things. While ransacking the house the broke several drawers, and several interior doors.

The cut the lock’s on the gate to her car port, the locks on the Iron Gate, “protecting” her kitchen door, destroyed the thick steel kitchen door with several bolted locks. The poor girl is a nervous wreck as her husband is currently out of the country.

These two young people work like animals to obtain the things they have and to give their son a decent life. They have to pay for a mediocre PRIVATE ”school” because the Public School System in DR is not fit for raising PIGS. She went to the police station to file a report and the two “officers” refused to take the report as they were eating there Pica-Pollo and because the Robbery Department is closed until Monday.

These two wonderful human beings have never asked me for anything they work hard for every penny and thing they have and yet they can't even get adequate police cooperation. I just offered to replace what was stolen and she said absolutely NOT! I just called a “general” I know to put fire under their asses to initiate an investigation into the robbery.

I don't understand these people that are still saying that Hipolito got more votes than Danilo, if so why isn't the elect president. Bull Shit to all of that because Danilo got almost 52% of the vote regardless if they came from other parties because at the end what counts is the winner and not the loser. The Hipolito groupies are going around selling that idea to the people so that they can feel some how proud of the F Calvo. Danilo won the election by almost 5 points and that is. So get use to the idea of you lost and there is nothing you can do to change that other than to keep thinking what Hipolito is thinking that he won in his mind. I don't get it why is always all the loser saying that they got cheat it and don't accept the fact that they lost.
