Santo Domingo.- “Mambo” music singer Antonio Peter de la Rosa, Omega, said it was an abuse that his locks were cut without his consent at San Pedro Prison, and affirmed that from now on he’ll have to wear a wig to keep working in a film he’s taking part in.

In his appearance before the National District Court of Appeals where he seeks his release on bond, attributed the action as an alleged plan to harm him.

Omega, accused of aggravated battery, said he had never harmed the dancer Yuny Lopez, who charged him of gender violence in the Office of the National District Prosecutor.

He said his incarceration has caused him much harm, because it has lost at least six contracts to play in different night clubs.

The Appelate Court judges ruled to keep de la Rosa in prison for three months to await trial.

He was treated nicely, he needed the same treatment that was given to a Haitian national by the NYPD, where they "inspected" his rear end with a broom handle.

Is sad that Dominicans complain so much about the abuse committed by the authorities but then rejoice when someone gets treated badly. I hope that you guys someday get in trouble in the D.R. and get the same treatment you are wishing on this man. I have not seen a bit of evidence or talk about witnesses confirming this man's guilt. There should be more than just someone's allegation or accusation to convict a person and send them to prison. He may be obnoxious and untalented and ugly as so many people have accused him of but that in it self does not prove he is guilty of the charges. To me, he is nothing but a high profile scape goat. He is being used as a propaganda tool of the authorities to make up for the criticism that they are not doing anything towards the violence against women in the D.R.

Some valid points there, ChicharronyPresidente

The outrage against alleged perpetrators may not be just scapegoating by authorities. It may be the guilty conscience of much of the general public who mistreat women too.

There is also the "sour grapes" factor - these untalented upstarts make more money than most of us, a la Dire Straits song "Money for nothin' an' your chicks for free!"
