Santo Domingo.- Around 30 people were injured, some seriously, in a traffic accident at the Las Americas highway toll plaza Wednesday, when a bus carrying 70 employees of a company hit one of the columns of the structure.

Most of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Among those hurt was the driver Carlos Manuel Paula, who despite his serious injuries was able to explain how he lost control as the bus as it approached the toll booths.

With that many people injured I can only think that driver was speeding on coming to the toll.

I get it now the toll hit the bus....no mention if speed was a factor.

Every time I go through that particular toll it's like a race with others cutting you off to get there first which I call the traffic funnel effect.

as you know Dominicans hate standing in lines , hate being in a traffic queue and atthis peaje , they cut each other off at high speeds . just to get a 5 yard advantage ,,There are 2 lanes where the toll collector sits much higher to collect money from drivers of trucks and buses ...I bet this driver made a last minute attempt to change lanes to gain a minute advantage

Yes, Ricky, it seems to me many Dominicans are so laid back they nearly fall off their chairs, and have no concept of time or urgency .....
until they get behind the wheel. Then they are on a vital mission.
