Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic will deploy yet another security contingent to safeguard the border with Haiti, called the "Secure Border Task Force."

In making the announcemment Tuesday, Maj. Gen. Rubén Darío Paulino said the Army’s new military entity will reinforce the border from Montecristi in the north to Pedernales in the south.

He said three groups of 30 men will form the Task Force units, which will be in action next Saturday.

Each of the trucks will be equipped with computers, night vision equipment, ATVs, motorcycles, radio and other logistics to fight smuggling, drug and people trafficking, cattle rustling and other crimes.

During a tour of the border installations, the military official met with farmers in Montecristi, Manzanillo, Dajabón, Restauracion and Loma de Cabrera, who expressed their concern with livestock theft.

The Task Force will bolster the Specialized Border Security Corps (Cesfront), and will build barracks in Pedernales, Elías Piña and Dajabón, to deploy patrols throughout the border, where Customs, Immigration and other agents operate.

Well done!
Now all military will have to do border duty at least 15 days a year, in a rotating basis.
Policing of the border is the military's most important function, and we must learn that the policy of putting a lock, after the trespassers have left, is a thing of the past.

Once again, good intentions poor planning which may produce poor results.
This is barely a company size element, or what we actually call a “Combat Team” (new Army concept). 90 men are not enough to cover an AO (area of operations) that extends from Pedernales to Dajabon and Monte Cristi. Are they augmenting the existing force assigned to the different CPs (check points) or, are these troops spreaded throughout the most vulnerable areas.

And are we going to make sure all Haitians residing in DR illegally will be deported and the border secured so that the massive influx can be stopped?

Ma' manos pa' mojar.

Start by getting rid of the illegals already in. This would be a deterrent to ill-migration if they new a big stick policy is being implemented.

Good question Ingle23, I was wondering the same thing. Hardly seems enough men to control the whole border. Seems they are to augment the other groups. What about replacing the existing border guards who through greed sold our sovereignty and allowed 3 million invaders to cross into our territory? Fire the whole lot and bring in young nationalist to safeguard our borders.

After a long absence, yet still observing offline, I don't know if I should cry or laugh? 30 men unit to patrol the border between H&DR? Now I can put my constent observation to rest!!!! Just to share a bit of what I have always observed and having a chance to also observed the unit that served under Spain bandera in Iraq. Now I now why those guys in uniform do not resemble trained soldiers and extremely overweight to say the least, specially the high ranking cadre. Is that another way for them to pocket some of the cash of whatever budget was approved for border's operation? 30 men unit????? WOW...... pricelesss!!!!!!!!!! Any of those fat kids in high ranking uniform ever attended an accreditted military institute or know a thing or two about tactics?????

I had requested 3 Brigades ,not 3 platoons.Next thing they will appoint a general to command these 90 guys. The idea is to give the soldiers something to do and keep them away from civilization.

More corrupt government officials who will allow the crimes, if paid off.

jambdebois;

Am 100% in agreenent with your statement. They should have that contingent served in Irak under
Spain,do the same at the border with Haiti if they are not self appointed generals by now.
One thing thought Dr has good military academies to serve its purpose. Why not take them out of there and send them to Haiti-DR fronteer and rotate them as it is required by the military code?

Another thing ,since they bought those planes from Brazil they have not showin any drugs incursions, unless they are there for looks and that is why drugs keep flowing in via Haiti

These troops will probably start looking the other way the first time they get offered 100 pesos. Same as it ever was.

Let's not forget, any standing army with zero combat experience is an ineffective army, usually result to corruption and bribes. Men with guns have a tendency to insert themselves above the law. wait and see how many pesos it will take to set the bar for those newbys.

Jam,
I concur with you. Weapons, ignorance, poverty and "power", it is a dangerous combination.

You just hit the nail on its head. i agree with both of you. The General looks sharp, but can he fight an enemy equal in rank ?.What are his credentials? Was he put in there for his looks ?not his military experience, and out of an acredited military academy ,at least Irak experience.
