Former LA Dodger slugger faces corruption probe

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry’s Anticorruption Prosecutor (Pepca) interrogates San Cristobal mayor and former LA Dodger Raul Mondesi since early Monday, in the heels of an Accounts Chamber audit which found alleged irregularities in the City Council of more than RD$70 million in 2012.

Mondesi arrived with his lawyers and is being questioned by Pepca director Laura Guerrero, who notified the former slugger to respond to the accusations on alleged corruption.

The audit found alleged the inconsistencies in the purchase of consumables, toys, tires and other items in violation of Law 340-06, in addition to withholding taxes from the Internal Taxes Agency and the undocumented rental of vehicles.

Other alleged irregularities found were relatives hired staff to work in other agencies, unspecified distribution of purchased fuel, changed budgets on pubilc works, debt with Social Security among others.
