Top deputy to reassign slush fund as citizens distrust mounts

Santo Domingo.- Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez on Tuesday announced that the funds earmarked to buy toys for Three Kings Day will also be made ??available to the executive branch.

Martinez’s announcement comes in the wake of mounting citizen frustration over the lawmaker’s use of slush funds “little barrel” in the lower Chamber, and “little chest” in the Senate.

He said he’ll ask president Danilo Medina to assign to the hospitals the funds, of around RD$75 million in the 2015 budget.

"As we did with the Social Management Fund, of 114 million pesos, we will notify our decision to President Medina and the bicameral commission…to reassign RD$75 million allocated to buy toys, so they are assigned to hospitals, " Martínez said, and revealed that the RD$75 million were used to raise wages.
