Can’t stand neighbor’s din? Call 9-1-1

Santo Domingo.- Aimed at improving the quality of life of Dominican families, children and students, pregnant women and the newborn, the elderly and the ill, the 9-1-1 Emergency Response System will protect them from annoying noises, starting January 15.

Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo met Thursday with the National Anti-noise Commission to hammer out the details of the new service in Santo Domingo, capital of one of the world’s noisiest countries.

During the meeting, members of the commission admitted that it’s difficult for citizens to file complaints against excessive noise since there’s no centralized unit where a call can be made.

Colmadones

The announcement comes in the heels of the increasing number of the co-called “Colmadones” which have sprouted in neighborhoods and barrios across the country, which specialize in alcoholic beverages and loud music.
