Medina must fire officials failed to submit statement: Civil society

Santo Domingo.- Civil society organizations on Monday demanded of president Danilo Medina to fire the officials who’ve failed to submit their financial statement within the deadline which Law 311-14 stipulates.

Just 48 of 110 officials had submitted their statements to the Accounts Chamber within the deadline.

Officials who were appointed, ratified and dismissed after August 8 are required to submit their statements the new law took effect.

"We cannot continue as the world’s bad example in transparency in the management of taxpayers’ money," said Institutionalism and Justice Foundation president Servio Tulio Castaños.

For Justice and Transparency Foundation coordinator Trajano Vidal Potentini, Medina must fire those officials who failed to comply with the Law.

The Accounts Chamber on Monday delivered to the Treasury more than 8,200 statements in their custody.
