Central Electoral Board cancels nearly 90,000 ID cards

Santo Domingo.– During the last two years the Central Electoral Board (JCE) has cancelled nearly 90,000 identity and electoral cards (cedulas) after detecting irregularities, falsification of data and death of bearers.

Statistics from the JCE reveal that after filtering and purging the voter registryused in the 2012 elections, up to December 12 this year 86.962 ID cards have been cancelled or declared null for various reasons, including the theft of data by those who have tried to obtain the document more than once.

According to records, most cancellations (76,450) were the result of the death of bearers, 5,904 for irregular data and 2,335 for committing identity theft.
