18,000 agents for safety operation during Easter break

Santo Domingo.– Police chief Manuel Castro announced that the 18,000 agents assigned for roads, rivers and beaches, as part of the Easter break safety plan, are trained to prevent incidents and traffic accidents.

Among the leading causes of death during Holy Week are traffic accidents, alcohol overdose and drowning. The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has already closed 179 swimming areas throughout the country because they are not fit for use by swimmers.

This year the "Holy Week 2014: Operation Plan for Values and Your Safety" includes three phases: the first phase will teach the population to take preventive measures; the second phase consists of the positioning of the personnel and aid units starting at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, 17 April until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, 20 April. The third phase, on 21 April will include the reports on the results of the operation.
