Navy detains Haitian, Cuban undocumented migrants

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Navy announced that it detained 52 undocumented migrants from Cuba and Haiti who were trying to travel illegally to Puerto Rico.

On Tuesday afternoon a group of 13 Cubans was surprised on Saona Island as they were preparing to travel to Puerto Rico in a Zodiac boat. They were transferred to the naval intelligence center in Santo Domingo to processed.

In addition, the navy also said it detained a boat with 39 Haitians, who were also trying to make it to Puerto Rico. Dominicans Julio Castro, Victor Martinez, Damian Garcia and Juan Damian, the alleged leaders of the aborted voyage, were taken into custotody.
