Conservative party mum on threat to split from government bloc

Santo Domingo.- A senior leader of the pro-government conservative FNP party on Thursday kept mum on their threat announced Wednesday that their members would resign from their Government posts and split from the ruling coalition.

Vinicio Castillo Seman said they met with president Danilo Medina on Thursday to discuss the regulation to enforce the controversial Foreigner Naturalization Law, which the organization fiercely opposed.

The also Deputy for the National District said they’ll discuss with the Government some aspects of naturalization which the FNP views as unconstitutional. "We have opened a conversation about some aspects of the regulation of Law 169-14.”

The lawmaker said there’s a need for stricter security regarding the information the applicants must provide. “The means to obtain reliable identities and the foreign nationality of their parents must be strengthened in accordance with what the Constitution and Law 169-14 Require.”
