Amnesty International urges Dominican Govt. to clarify disappearances

Santo Domingo.- On the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Amnesty International urged the Dominican government to investigate the disappearance of three people, allegedly at the hands of the police in the last five years.

The humanitarian organization called for bringing to justice to those responsible, and take all necessary measures to put an end to what they call an aberrant practice.

Randy Vizcaino Gonzalez, Gabriel Sandi Alistar and Juan Almonte Herrera disappeared between 2009 and 2013, after being arrested by the National Police. Their whereabouts still remain a mystery.

Chiara Ligouri, Caribbean researcher at Amnesty International, said that enforced disappearance of the three men are a stain on the Dominican justice system and the most brutal expression of police failure in the country. "The families of these victims deserve to know the whereabouts of their sons, brothers, husbands and fathers," she stressed.
