Opposition party is first to tap presidential candidate

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s main opposition party (PRD) on Sunday elected Miguel Vargas as its presidential candidate for the May 2016 elections, and becomes the first major political organization to do so.

The PRD had elected Vargas by 3,608 of the delegates from a total of 4,400 present in its convention on July 20, in addition to other organization officials.

Dozens of National Police agents were discretely posted at the main entries of the Olympic Center, site of the activity.
