Former Dominican energy czars trade barbs (Update)

(Update) Santo Domingo.- Former State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) CEO Celso Marranzini on Wednesday denied heading a smear campaign to discredit his predesessor Radhames Segura and replace him in the post, and suggested that the former official shut up. “I would tell Segura just like the king of Spain said, ‘why don’t you shut up.”

FILE.- Adding to the decades-long crisis hobbling the State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE), former CEO Radhames Segura on Wednesday slammed his successor Celso Marranzini for waging a “campaign of lies” against his tenure to take over the post.

Segura said Marranzini reached his goal through a “smear crusade” in the media, to denounce the numerous blackouts, the Utility’s deficit and its accumulated debt.

Segura called Marranzini’s tenure in the CDEEE a total failure and with shortcomings such as ballooned deficit from US$720 million to U $1.5 billion.

The also senior leader of the ruling PLD party said all of the CDEEE’s problems got worse during Marranzini’ tenure, but noted that he doesn’t hold a grudge with those who acted against him.

Interviewed by Salvador Hilguin in the Hilando Fino program, the PLD presidential candidacy hopeful also accused then president Leonel Fernández of acting partially and of risking his prestige by firing him and naming Marranzini, adding that despite his respect for the decision, Fernández should’ve supported him.
