Chief Justice: I won’t beg for court funds

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court chief justice Mariano German railed against the Administration of president Danilo Medina on Monday, when he vowed to “not beg for a budget increase ever again.”

He warned the country not to complain or demand a good administration of Justice.

"I don’t think I have to ask for it, the functions are done with dignity, each person knows what corresponds," German said when asked why the Executive Branch didn’t an increase the Judiciary’s budget.

He said the lack of funds has delayed the designation of half of justices of the peace, cannot hire lawyers or secretaries and cannot buy needed materials.

German, speaking during the induction of 42 judges and justices of the peace, said that a good investigation isn’t possible without funds "If I have to send someone to the North to do some investigation, I send them on foot."
