Taiwan to train Dominican medical team in liver transplant

Santo Domingo.– Medical teams from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Paraguay will be trained by the Kaohsiung branch of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), in Taiwan, in the field of liver diseases and transplants.

The three diplomatic allies of Taiwan accepted an invitation to send medical teams to the hospital after CGMH Kaohsiung branch superintendent Chen Chao-long visited Latin America earlier this month under the auspices of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

According to the hospital, during Chen’s visit the three allies identified liver-transplant training as a priority since they all lack that expertise. Chen is a pioneering surgeon who in 1984 performed the first successful liver transplant in Asia.
