Accounts Chamber mum on Defense Ministry audit: Acento

Santo Domingo.- The AccountsChamber has yet to submit to the Justice Ministry’s Anticorruption Dept. (Pepca)an audit of the Defense Ministry, which found alleged malfeasance of taxpayersmoney of more than RD$1.5 billion.

The final report, despiteapproval by the Accounts Chamber in April 2013, doesn’t figure among the 68 auditssubmitted to Pepca from 2009 to 2013.

The audit of the DefenseMinistry’s budget executions includes the periods from December 2006 to 2010.

Although theregulator found financial irregularities (indicating corruption) which could’veled to indictments of several senior military officials, the Chamber has failedto release the audits.

According to acento.com.do,the audit reveals that the Defense Ministry violated several laws on governmentspending. “Furthermore the results showed that the authorities of the Defense Ministryignored the National Internal Control System and contradict the General Controller’sOffice in its budget implementation.”
