DR, third in the region with highest teen pregnancy rate

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic is among the top three countries in the region with the highest fertility rate in teenagers, which implies that in 1,000 women aged 15-19 years, 98 have already given birth.

According to elnuevodiario.com.do, the country is above the average for Latin America, by 31 adolescents, and doubles the world average.

UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean is following up regional agreements on sex education, aiming at enhancing technical exchange on the implementation of education, health and sexual reproductivity in schools.

Data collected by Deloitte Dominican Republic points out that the draft law on sexual and reproductive health that reached the Chamber of Deputies has met various obstacles during the last few weeks due to some aspects of its content.
