Attorney General and Police chief discuss anti-crime measures

Santo Domingo.- Attorney GeneralFrancisco Domínguez Brito and National Police Chief Major General NelsonPeguero Paredes met yesterday with all the provincial investigation chiefs,prosecutors and district attorneys from around the country to take measuresagainst crime. They said that the murder and kidnap rates had declined, but thatarmed robberies and theft had increase.

We have carried out a diagnosis of thesituation, we have seen a decline in the rate of murders and kidnappings;however, we note an increase in the rate of armed robberies and thefts, whichis a great cause for concern over which we will put all our energy, courage andwill with the aim of reducing this problem, which is not a perception but areality,” said Domínguez Brito.

The AG said that during a three-hourmeeting at the National Police headquarters, they discussed the issues oforganized crime, contract killers, micro-trafficking, domestic violence,prevention work, unsolved cases and capture of fugitives.

He added that they would be working withthe judicial system as well as the National Police strategies in order to takeshort, medium and long-term decisions.
