Santo Domingo.- MetropolitanTransit Authority (AMET) director Frener Bello on Tuesday complained that motorists’aggressions against his agents aretreated as mere traffic violations.

Quoted by diariolibre.com, the official said such attacks shouldbe handled as an assault on the authority, which are crimes that could lead to prisonsentences.

"That’s not asimple violation of Law 241," he said, noting that AMET will seek harsherpenalties for those who attack its agents.

Bello visited NationalDistrict prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, to design what he called a plan tofurther regulate traffic.

He said some of the measuresrelated to vehicle traffic will be implemented jointly with the JusticeMinistry. "An aggression against any authority whether an AMET, weunderstand should lead to prison and should be taken into account, because thelaw is the rule of democracy."
