In Dominican capital conclave EU, LatAm, Caribbean to bolster cooperation

Brussels.- The European Union (EU) and theCommunity of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will bolster cooperationand review the progress in the action plans for both regions adopted at theBrussels summit of 2015, in a new joint gathering in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, EFE reports.

Starting today and until October 26 the High Representative of the EU forForeign Affairs Federica Mogherini, and CELAC president Miguel Vargas (Dominican),wil head the first meeting of foreign ministers of the two blocs, the EuropeanCommission (EC ) said in a statement.

During the meeting progress on public safety,job creation, student exchanges and action against climate change will be discussedafter approving the action plans at last year’s summit.

The top level diplomats will sign anagreement to establish the EU-LAC Foundation as an international organization tolink intergovernmental processes with business, academic institutions andcitizens in both regions.

Moreover Brussels will ratify new cooperationprojects of 74 million Euros with Latin American and Caribbean countries.
