Six new lawmakers could have drug trafficking links, official says

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Dominguez on Wednesday revealed that theauthorities investigate six new lawmakers in Congress for alleged moneylaundering and drug trafficking.

He said the new senators and deputies are undersurveillance, not only for the possible increase of their assets but also thepossible actions to impede the fight against corruption and drug trafficking.

"Constitutionally we can neither say a name, norprevent their election nor their taking the oath but constitutionally, no onecan stop us and nothing will prevent us from providing follow-up on each ofthem, their worth, their possible capital increase and their actions fromCongress.”
