Teaching sex education in schools OK, says top Dominican bishop

San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.- San Pedro Diocesebishop and incoming Santo Domingo metropolitan bishop Francisco Ozoria on Tuesdaysaid the Catholic Church agrees with teaching sex education in schools,provided it’s done the right way without diverting the values in students.

Ozoria said students must learn how to prevent sexuallytransmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

"The Ministry of Education should implement thismatter so that students know the consequences of sexually transmitteddiseases," the prelate said, adding that the institution made an importantdecision when it placed that subject in country’s schools.
