Busiest Dominican port holds large-scale anti-terror drill

Santo Domingo.- The company Haina International Terminals(HIT) held conducted a large-scale anti-terrorism drill Monday morning to trainits teams to deal with a possible attack.

The exercise comes just days after several terrorist attacksthat have killed dozens of people across the globe.

Around 100 people took part in the drill in coordinationwith the Port Security Agency (CESEP), Santo Domingo Firefighters, Civil Defenseteams, police and military.

Several fires were set in various areas of the country’sbusiest port during the event, with "people wounded and with imputations."

The mock terrorists also sequestered a ship, planted bombsand simulated other dangerous contingencies.

Once the drill concluded, the HIT executives said the exercisein compliance with the International Ships and Port Facilities Protection Code (ISPS)and aims to deal with events which could affect port operations.

Traffic was gridlocked as Haina Port was placed in lockdownduring the drill staged from 9:30am to 11am, 13 kilometers west of the city on the30 de Mayo-Sanchez highway.
