Ex-president Mejia undergoing emergency surgery(Update)

Santo Domingo.- Former president Hipolito Mejia was taken tothe emergency room at CEDIMAT Medical Center in the capital Thursday morning, withan unspecified ailment.

Local media report that the former head of state andpolitical leader arrived in hospital around 6am.

Mejia, 75, underwent prostate surgery several years ago.

A team of nephrologists and other specialists at CEDIMAT) arecurrently conducting surgery on Mejia, who was admitted early Thursday,suffering from severe pain in the lower abdomen.
