Santo Domingo.- The country general manager of the multinational Odebrecht arrived in the Justice Ministry Tuesday morning, to face questions into the company's admitted US$92 million paid in bribes in exchange for construction contracts.

Marcelo Hofke was accompanied by his lawyer Robert Valdez, and at all times declined responding to journalists' questions.

Upon arrival, Valdez said they went to the inert view at Justice minister Jean Rodriguez's request. He said they would speak with the media after the interview.

That is easy to figure out. The same thing that always happens. They catch a few little fishes who are used as scape goats and who pay the maximum penalties of law, while the big fish get away with scot free. The fact is, the legal system is great in theory, but in practice, it is neither fair nor just. Sometimes good people get screwed and bad people go free. Don’t let the appearance of objective laws deceive you; once you get into the system, anything can happen, and there are no guarantees, ever.
