WASHINGTON. - The Human Rights Commission Wednesday said the Inter-American Court will hear the case of 10 adults and 17 children deported to Haiti by the Dominican government as part of a series of expulsions, despite that several of them were Dominican citizens, AP reports.
It’s the latest case pitting the Dominican Government and hemispheric institutions over issued related to the inflow of Haitians to the country, or alleged violation of rights of Dominicans of Haitian descent.
"The phenotypic character and the darker color of skin" were crucial to select those expelled "which shows a pattern of discrimination" because they were "de facto expulsions based on racial prejudice, without legal basis or subsequent administrative or judicial review,” the Commission said in a statement.
It said when some of the Dominicans expelled showed identification proving their nationality, it was destroyed by officials.
The Commission sent the case to court on July 12 on the grounds that the Dominican government violated recommendations, such as allowing victims to return from Haiti, recognize their Dominican nationality or issue the documents needed to prove their birth in Dominican territory, or ensure that Haitian nationals can stay in the Dominican Republic with their families, as the case may be.

No more flower power hippie activists behind this. The lawyers representing this case are high profile and require mucho bucks, that I am positive the "discriminated" Haitians don't have.
A much stronger and powerful force is behind them, with a definite interest to have the DR be the solution to Haiti's problem's.

That is, if the Russians and China actually had a stake in the Haitian mess, which they currently don't, by the way. If the Russkies couldn't get the Yanks out of Guantanamo when they were the "mighty" USSR, why do you think they would be able to have a say into what happens just a few kms. to the east of it in their current situation? As for China, they currently have their hands full in trying to make the Japs and the Filipinos comply with their expansive ambitions on some of their islands (Senkaku-Diaoyu), so it's a fool's errand to expect them to be paying attention to what is happening an ocean away, even more if we take into account that their fleet capabilities aren't enough to project their power so far away (yet)....
