Port-au-Prince.– Port-au-Prince has a shortfall of e,000m3 of potable water per day, Danielle Valiquette, director of cooperation and international development for the non-profit organization One Drop, told BNamericas.

Before the earthquake in January 2010 "potable water coverage in the country was some of the worst in the world at around 50%," said Valiquette. Following the disaster, coverage dropped drastically.

Reconstruction work has restored coverage to 50% but in a capital that requires 250,000m3 of water per day, only 120,000m3 per day is being provided.

Poor sanitation, just 24% coverage, has compounded the recovery of the population as contaminated water has also caused 5,000 cases of cholera, said the director.

One Drop is carrying out a US$5.3mn water project in Léogâne, 32km west of the capital and one of the regions at the epicenter of the earthquake.

Haiti4Ever or sonofhaiti or Spinach or ?? what was the other one???

"And what you're looking at are solutions"

"capital that requires 250,000m3 of water per day, only 120,000m3 per day is being provided."

How is that a solution? The $5.3mil is no way enough to build a dam to cover the 130.000m3 needed just for the capital.....
What most read hear is this guy is saying that it''s not getting solved and they need a new "solution"

Strange.. your even angry at your fellow countryman how is supporting you. hahahahha

You make a statement then wont back it up... coward.. or is it that you'r just making it all up.. No.. hang on... you haven't really put anything forward to back up...

"Solution indeed because it was not available before"...

By what this report is saying .. it's still not available NOW and wont be unless more is done... or can you not read what it is saying??

Yes more pipes are being put in but is the AMOUNT of water needed there?....
requires 250,000m3 pd. only 120,000m3 pd being provided. Show us where the rest of the water is coming from? Or explain why it is not saying the water is there, but not being provided, other than not having the plumbing and infrastructure still not done yet?

Why are you still going with the childish tirades? Grow up and make an argument with facts to back it up....

Fishing with just a little bait today....hahahaha

It would be very easy to supply the water needed. The lake is very closed by. Both lakes are running over and as we all know is a problem of both sides. So put in a filter station and pipes, and you have water more as you need. Could be done is a few months.

Well that's almost informative. Still not pointing out any information.

And the money for these wells and dams, length of time to plan, survey . green light then build clean and pipe?
A better solution would be to put in the very old fashioned rain water gutters, tanks and solar UV and carbon filters. Implement building codes to make use of all the roofing area and all that water just running off into the sea.

anbro2007
"The lake is very closed by" which ones would they be? Lake Enriquillo, Trou Calman and Lac Azuéi ?
All brackish water lakes (salt) the price and energy needed to desalinate is very costly.
both are very polluted as well.

Dominicans would love to see either an Earthquake or floods to st rike Haiti , what they would do at the same time laugh at us , this is to show who aren't on the right track , it's also in most of their comments .

F00ls , the way they behave and think, if someone could make fun of another when he's d0wn , yet still think they are right is " épouvantable "

We don't need to make fun of you, Haiti4Ever. You're already doing an impeccable job at making an ass of yourself.
