Dominican Canela sets open water swim records

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic .- EduardoCanela, the first and only athlete to swim Samaná Bay both ways and the onlyDominican to swim in a pool 24 hours nonstop, now accomplished the challenge ofswimming 24 hours in open waters along Boca Chica beach.

This first challenge is part of the professionalswimmer’s physical training before assuming great challenges in 2017.

For the first stage Canela set out tochallenge the resistance in swimming through a circuit of around 1.8 km in atime of 24 hours uninterrupted, setting off from Boca Chica beach along thecoast to Hotel Don Juan.

Canela’s first open water solo swim in 2013made him the first and, thus far only swimmer to ply Samaná Bay of round tripnonstop, covering 36 km in 9 hours 59 minutes, certified by the DominicanSwimming Federation (FEDONA) as a National Record. In addition to being theswimmer with seven crossings, the highest number for that bay.
