PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic. - The beaches of Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort received the International Environmental Education Foundation’s "Blue Flag" certification, which makes the country the leader in Latin America with 14 such distinctions.

Barceló Bavaro Beach Resort commercial director Teresa Tejeda said the award is the result of hotel’s implementation and planning of environment friendly measures for sustainable development on its shores.

Idalia Acevedo, Environment Deputy Minister for Marine and Coastal Resources, hailed Barcelo’s commitment, noting that the Blue Flag certification complements the country’s laws on environmental resources.

In that regard Blue Flag technical Cesar Vargas said the main demands the certification requires  the proper handling and use of beaches, no pollution in its waters, undamaged beach facilities and the environment, the collection of organic materials, high safety levels, a ramp for access for the disabled, a defined swimming area with buoys and signs, and properly installed bathrooms among others.

Great news!!! Congratulations for you fooks!

And as always we have the happy friendly writers who always are negative. Get a life people. For our Viking, just stay in Denmark. Why comment on this post if you are happy there? Or perhaps not so happy...

The nay sayers. Off with their heads. Even if good news is presented, their first reaction is to disregard and put down the news.

Excellent news!

Scando, you don't like DR? then gtfo . simple. :)

@Tony, exactly - . -

I can go to Denmark and be miserable as it's probably depressing/ cold people as hell. In DR is pure happiness and joy in the other hand. I don't like noise, I just like the warm friendliness and joy of our people.

You guys have a strange pleasure of fooling yourselves dont you.

You dont like noise? well if thats true and you really want to be in DR you have to wear the best earprotection ever made. I dont need to mention sunglasses because that is a trademark of a dominican, and no less than Ray Ban u must know, even if there are no money to have a meal for the next few days. You know its important to be "cool" even if the rear isnt covered. Hell, trow in some gold to wear just to make it "real cool" then the whole world is at your doorsteps. Coool man eah. Now you are a real man. Shit I forgot to add a tshirt from Hard Rock Cafe. Bingo

Btw how did u get into Iceland and what could u possibly benefit the Icelandic society? It seems to me u have not learned anything yet from a civilized country and people? Looks to me u have a long way to go and I dont think u will ever pass the finnish line.

When I was a young lad, I remember being taken to Boca Chica. It was so beautiful and the water was so warm and refreshing.
Today, it has become a cesspool with rude, uneducaded apes riding jetskis and music blasting to high hell. Tragic.

Fortunately, there are other beaches that are still pristine and beautiful. They are mainly located in the north coast where I hope to settle soon. I'll try to do my best to keep them that way.

Scandi, trust me buddy I know about being civilized, probably more then you ever will ;)

Silly I like Icelandic post-rock and some of its astonishing landscapes (reason why added it). What could I possibly benefit? good question, maybe my brilliant thinking, I don't know what else but probably something good apart from that...

I REALLY dislike your negativity..
When I was in D.R . I took for granted the extremely turquoise color of dominican beach, and I was assuming every beach in the world was like that..

Them I heard the pope John Paul II that was the thing that impressed him the most when he was coming over.

After long years, life took me to a lot of places and beaches in south and north america , away from my homeland..
When I came back to D.T for the first time in long years I just saw the AMAZING color of the water.. and I still remember the HUGE impression when I saw it..

There is NOTHING in the world more beautiful than that! Looks like God painted himself, the most beautiful tones in our country ! We are really blessed!

Even in the city where I am living they have a blue flag certification and the water is dark grey and you can not see your own feet..

So, as dominican we REALLY must feel proud of having one of the most beautiful countries in the world!

You are certainly blessed with the beauty of DR, however you give a damn about it. In a very uncivilized and ungrateful manner u pollut and litter the country to the fullest. Untill u know how to behave u certainly do not deserve the beauty of DR. Would u be ashamed. Dont think so.

Go have a look in the mirror because your mentality is outrageous.

So, please, dont confuse elaninomo or anybody else..Friggin' liar..

2.-I 've been away from la tierra de papa Dios for decades..unfortunately ..So, I guess that you are the one polluting the waters..

BTW GPS ms vicky u say u have been out of Dr for a very long time. You know u have been given the possibilty from other countries to prosper. Now, its about time u get back to DR and do something real for a change. Dont be such a selfish coward and launch only hot air like most of u do. However, if I know u right, u would be one of them jumping right into corruption and betrayal of your own people just to enrich yourself. That is the mentality which prohibit DR to progress and u are most like one of them.

GPS ms vicky,
Now lets see if u have the moral obligation and balls to do following:

Demand a written, official statement of all assets belonging to the top 20 PRD, PLD and PRSC politicians, and how they were earned down to the last peso for the last 20 years, supervised by international auditors. If you can show me your written demand, received and stamped at the presidents office, I will reconsider my opinion of u. Untill then u are just full of hot air.

If by any chance such an audit took place, you could say u were on the right track to a civilized society.

@Scandi,

WTF does this have to do with Iceland? two different subjects and when did I ever asked if I world or not benefit such country?? ....You obviously have some issues with us Dominicans for what ever reasons and I rarely see people who do. You're an odd case. BTW I do believe in a collective society that works together for the well being of a group/country, so your claims that I'm selfish is complete fallacy and a dumb attempt to make me seem 'bad', guess what you're wrong... Get off your high horse, I doubt you'll contribute at anything but just mere words of wannabe 'superiority' complexion...

I can see from your heading "haitiens out of DR" that u dont consider Haitiens as people, because I strongly believe that Haitiens has an issue with the dominicans, for a start. Looking at the rate of criminals arriving at SDQ, thrown out of USA, I suppose the US authorities has a big issue with dominicans. Seen the news from Spain or PR lately??

Furthermore, also with reference to your heading, u attack the poor Haitiens directly, but is too much of a coward to blame who is to blame, namely your politicians and the rich in DR.

Yes there are Dominicans who cause problems in the US, PR and Spain, but not all do and if so is for the lack of education giving to them by their parents plus the rap and gangster culture infesting Latin America this days, Mexican trouble makers, and other Latin Americans are no different.

Haitians in the other hand bring out worst problems, like illnesses, crime and severe poverty. So don't climb on the Haitian ladder for your own cowardly benefit. I'm 100% sure (considering your outdated racialists views) that you'll say the same or worst things about them, if they where in Denmark or from what ever the hell you are. In the area I live in, Dominicans are more preferred (if not rarely cause problems then Puerto Ricans) hence we're very warm, hard working, down to earth and friendly people, unlike them they are louder and a bunch of woman beaters and arrogant people. But you won't understand this as you're the actually the person with the denial and narrow minded mentality, not me

Btw learn how to spell...Haitians, is with an 'a' not an 'e' after the 2nd 'i'.

Now don't waist my precious time with your unproductive cowardly racialists jokes and get out of DT, you have nothing whatsoever that is of need here. Again don't waist my time, I'm out of this thread sir and honestly hope your sad life improves soon. Farewell (Goodbye)

where do you live? Puerto Ricans are a bunch of woman beaters? do you live in a cave? have you seen how many Dominican women get killed by spouses and significant others every year in the DR? the DR has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world. LOUDER? what do you mean LOUDER? where do you come up with this crap? how can a Dominican ever refer to a person from another country as being LOUD? are you one medication? if not, you should be.

It happens in every culture dread, woman getting killed by their spouses. I live in an area crowded with low life Puerto Ricans and I'm damn sure about what I'm talking about sir!

Every one knows that Dominicans, specially the ones born in DR are more respectful to their parents, have family unity and are friendlier.. Americans around here themselves tell me the same thing that shouldn't even be argued. Bad places in NY and some isolated cases in DR are what you heard of. Good bye both of you non-Dominican damn trolls don't waist my time. :)

It's a good thing that the boys in Jamaica really take care of their sisters and wives. Just saying.............................

Violence against females is a MAJOR problem in many islands in the Caribbean. Wake up. Puerto Rico has a grave problem concerning wife/girlfriend violence by their male lovers and husbands. DR has a major problem that is getting a lot of needed attention. Hopefully, both societies will heed the call and major reforms come about to prosecute and decrease significantly the violence against females.

Balance and perspective should never be in short supply.

here comes the moron , Atabey, with his idiotic remarks, as usual. Jamaica has a horrible record , when it comes to violence against women, and it is aggravated by politics, not only domestic violence. THAT IS NOT THE POINT, you jackass. someone here referred to Puerto Ricans as wife beaters, as if Dominicans are altar boys in the respect. i simply called upon statistical evidence to set the record straight. then again, i know better than waiting to hear you make an intelligent remark.

Just joshing, Dread. I'm a firm proponent of the blending of races and cultures. Some of the most attractive humans I've ever seen, are of diversed hereditary traits. Some are multi-lingual, with an apparent inborn take on what makes us different and alike.

One other awesome attraction, is the ability to fit in and prosper, in the full sense of that word. With unusual mental and physical abilities that imparts an advantage in survival.

I can only hope Dominican culture becomes much more diversified. We can use a few more Danish...and coffee.
