Tropical Dominican Republic gets a sprinkling of snow

Santo Domingo.- Constanza, Dominican Republic radio station orbita929.com on Monday reported s light snowfall in nearby Valle Nuevo, a national park with peaks which soar to 10,000 feet above sea level.

It’s not the first time it snows in the Dominican Republic, where park rangers at La Pelona and Duarte peaks report that cold spells they call “El Boton” usually bring snow and wet snow, but which melts quickly after hitting the ground.

Wet snow has often been reported in the high altitudes of the Sierra de Baoruco National Park, where peaks as high as 8,700 feet above sea level make it easy to observed the beach of Bahia de las Aguilas, just 30 minutes away.
