US, Canada planes make Dominican Fly-in a success

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) on Wednesday called last weekend’s Fly-in a success, citing the visit by 24 private aircraft from the US and Canada at Arroyo Barril Airport, northeastern Samaná province.

The Fly-ins promoted by IDAC have the support of the Airports Dept. and the Tourism Ministry aim to promote private pilots’ interest in the country and develop recreational aviation in the region.

Government officials and business leaders welcomed the visiting pilots and their companions, who staid in the country duuring two days.

An executive order in effect since 2008 repealed the tax on private plane flights of up to 12 passengers, which has spurred numerous visits by aviation tourists and attracts foreign capital Dominican Republic.

The event also provided a platform to launch the Caribbean Governor Cup Air Rally, with the participation of the pilot-couple Don, 91, and Patricia 90, Eisenberg, and the presentation of the first diesel-powered airplane (DA-42), from the US.
