Unesco to promote Dominican Republic cultural tourism

Santo Domingo.- The United Nations Education,Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) through its World Heritage Center, hasexpressed an interest in creating a solid foundation for Santo Domingo’s historic center to become the main anchor for cultural tourism in the DominicanRepublic.

This is the central aim of the “Second Workshop forthe Development of a Destination Management and Sustainable Tourism Strategyfor the Colonial City” chaired by Unesco’s representative in the country, JulissaUreña.

The project, which consists of designing aninter-institutional management model for the Colonial City is being implementedat the request of the Colonial City Tourism Promotion Program as part of theactivities in its third component: “Strengthening Tourism Management” through acooperation agreement between the Inter-American Development Bank and Unesco.
