Santo Domingo.- Republican nominee Donald Trump was elected president of the United States Tuesday, in a stunning upset that defied nearly every prediction.

Trump surged over Hillary Clinton’s Democratic firewall and turned back her bid to become the first woman to serve as president, even as the candidates battled for the lead in the popular vote.

"The real estate magnate was carried to victory by a wave of right-wing populist nationalism, as working- and middle-class white Americans turned out in droves to vote for a candidate who had rejected Republican dogma during an erratic, peculiar campaign. Trump overperformed expectations in nearly every public poll, as well as the internal expectations of both parties," reports US outlet theatlantic.com.

I think that this is a very accurate description of what happened. It was a reaction against a black President, it was a reaction against black and latin people coming into the USA and it was a reaction to liberal social policies.
No matter how dark the cloud may be , there is a silver lining and we will be saying goodbye to Brewster .
What will happen? I think that the USA will become very isolationist with all that this entails .

I am neither happy nor sad about Trump's victory. This about a wait and see what is going to happen. I suggest everyone to observe quietly, keep your guards up and proceed with caution. The election of this candidate was totally unexpected and exceeded everyone's expectations. From the very beginning no one predicted that Trump will be the next president of the United States
Unfortunately, there is too much uncertainty in the future of America. The only thing I can tell everyone is to expect the unexpected. There will be many surprises coming up ahead, never before seen in the history of America.

Why are so many people surprise of Donald J Trump winning. I always thought that he was going to win because he talked to Middle and Rural Americans people like no other candidate had ever done. What I am shocked at it is that he got more than 41% of the women votes when he was only given 17%. The CNN and all those others news channels are dune from this on. They lied to the American people in their polls left and right just to try to persuade the trump supporters not to come out and vote for him. They were kind of like saying, it doesn't matter because he is not going to win anyway whether you vote or not and they are all proven wrong. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and the governor of OHIO are some Republicans that today are feeling sorry for not joining the winning train and also the Bushes.

Guille, that's why you can't listen to the mainstream media.
They had Hillary as a clear cut and absolute winner. Well, the opposite just happened.

Most of the people are sheep, victims of knee jerk reactions, and consume whatever plate of shit served by the liberal mainstream media.

Wait and see is the right approach.
But, this victory only shows you how fed up the American people are with the status quo.

DR should take notice.

I totally agree.......I hope the DR will follow a similar path, realized that people are fed up with the status quo. the traditional politician who is out to serve himself rather then country will eventually disappear and be a thing of the past.

I do not think that it has anything to do with having liberal views. Trump fed populist rhetoric to the masses who gobbled it all up . I suppose if we had a candidate in the DR who said he would round all the Haitians up and send them home and he would build a ten feet high electrified wire on the border to Haiti and he would reduce ITBIS by 20% , then he would win in the DR also.
I doubt if the way business is done in Washington will change much ...there will still be the same corruption led by all the lobbyists.

Ricardito, you are on denial. Sorry but the people has spoken. The hardliners establishment politicians, the media bias and Wall Street that they can just keep putting in office the candidates that fits their agenda and they have just been proven wrong. The people that supported Trump are those hardworking middle and rural of Amarica that no one talks about them because in their minds they don't mean a dam thing. But yesterday they were proven wrong. By the way Peligrin Castillo is a hard nationalist in the DR and ran for president this year and he didn't even get to 2% of the votes. So your statement that anyone that comes into politics and talk about deporting all the Haitians is going to win it just wrong. Danilo Medina was very kind to the Haitians during his first term and also he rise taxes on the poor and he still won by 63% of the electoral votes on May.

Not racist ,,but I have a very strong knowledge of history.. and the USA is back to where it was in 1938..it is isolationist and protectionist again.. Yes mainstream white americans want it this way .I agree with that .
Yes bernies I take your point very well, but if Abibadar had trundled out a keep Haitians behind a fence I think he may have won . But Danilo was ajust too popular ..except in DT

The liberal anti-Trump propaganda machine was going at it at full force. All around the world, they tried to paint Trump as a monster, when in reality, the man was just preaching about what the exhausted common American folk was thinking and going through.

Ricardito, Abinader lost because he associated himself too much with the American Ambassador a guy that is not much like it by the vast majority of the Dominican conservative groups of people in this country. His association with Brewster cost him the election just like the lying of Clinton and her idea and the people that are around her thinking that they can lied to the American people and get away with it also cost her the election.

Yes Trinitario , I am alone on this one but it is not an issue that I am excited about..But what I find confusing is that I am told just to accept the verdict of the American people when exactly the same people will NOT accept the fact that Danilo was voted with a good majority by the rank and file Dominican people

Ricardito you wrote, will NOT accept the fact that Danilo was voted with a good majority by the rank and file Dominican people, do you think the PLD won in a fair honest way with out buying V.

You must be rich person and out of touch with the average Dominican or live out side of the Dominican Republic to think the Danilo was elected with out the help of Miguer Vargas who sold out to the PLD.
Any way TRUMP WON, lets hope the Republican let DR handle their business with this mass of illegal Haitian immigrants entering DR.

After the earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010, the number of Haitians doubled to 2 million, most of whom illegally crossed after the border opened for international aid. Human Rights Watch estimated that 70,000 documented Haitian immigrants and 1,930,000 undocumented immigrants were living in Dominican Republic.
Dominicans need to reinforced immigration laws, the Democrats put lots of pressure to stop the deportation, displacing Dominicans out of jobs = c

I live in zona colonial, I am richer than most Dominicans but do not display it and 99% of my friends are Dominicans and I shop most days in Ave mella or now in National in Conde ..just for information. I go to la Romana very regularly to play golf there . The PLD got in with Vargas helo but Danilo got in on his own merits.

Well, well, well. In a stunning win, a Republican is elected US president (albeit a loco). The Clintons are out! Rangel has retired and a Dominican has taken his seat.

Where is that Black Caucus or the Clintons to save the illegal Haitians! No where in sight. And they never managed to cause Dominican law to be changed.

To Josean and what's his name (the Jamaican that said Dominicans don't vote) EGG ON YOUR FACE!!

Dominicans just voted one of their own into the US Congress.

I wonder whatever happened to those two? I know they were both permanently banned from DT but I still wonder about them. What on earth are they now doing with all that free time. Joe-anus was on here like 24/7. He must have committed suicide. He just did not know what to do with himself. The Jamaican was "Dreadlocks". He had a sharp tongue and man when anyone go him on a roll he was slashing away at anyone with his snaked like forked tongue.

Oh I think they are both still here under different screen names. I will point them out if I see. Most people don't post as much as before.

Dreadlocks and the other fool Devon were the ones who said Dominicans don't vote in the U.S.

Hey Dreadlocks, you heard about Adriano Espaillat's win - this one's for you! Ha ha!

I don't know what happened to Josean, but Dreadlocks posts on another site under a different name.

It took me a little while to realize it was Dreadlocks, but no doubt it is him.

The site is heavily moderated so Dreadlocks has had to tone down his "sharp tongue" somewhat.

But it sometimes still comes out as he has had several temporary bans, lol.
