Santo Domingo.- Haitian authorities have yet to charge Dominican Republic senator Felix Bautista in the wake of the US Treasury Dept.’s accusation of corruption in the works built in that country by the lawmaker, with international assistance funds.
Haiti Embassy commercial attaché Miousemine Celestín provided the information Thurs., but noted that prior to filing formal charges, they’ll await “the final results of what the United States has just announced.”
Celestín spoke in the panel “Dominican foreign policy towards Haiti,” hosted by the Dominican Foreign Ministry at its headquarters.
The US Government froze the assets in that country held by the ruling party (PLD) senator, on alleged corruption, mainly during Haiti’s reconstruction, after a devastating earthquake.
“Senator Bautista used his position to get involved in corruption, including taking advantage of his position during the humanitarian efforts related to the reconstruction of Haiti,” Treasury Department Under Secretary Sigal Mandelker said in a statement.
