Dominican Republic detains 1,019 foreigners, deports 692

Santo Domingo.- The Immigration (DGM) agency on Wed. said  1,019 foreigners were arrested during a wide sweep along the five provinces of the Dominican-Haitian border.

The operation was conducted with several teams of Army troops, 95 DGM agents, inspectors and supervisors, 150 Border Security (Cesfront) guards and Justice Ministry officials.

The teams set up checkpoints in Montecristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia and Pedernales provinces, using digital devices to verify the migratory status and authenticity of the documents presented by the foreigners.

“After background checks, 692 undocumented persons were transferred to the border crossings of Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia and Pedernales, for their deportation process,” the DGM said.
