Santo Domingo.- The general manager of Panama’s Colon Free Zone (ZLC), the largest in the American continent, on Thurs. called Dominican Republic’s legal security for foreign investment “stable and respectable.”

Manuel Grimaldo said the country’s legal security is respected as Panama’s, a nation which owns the ZLC and with which it has established business relations.

Grimaldo’s assertion contradicts Dominican Foreign Investment Companies Association (Asiex) president Máximo Vidal, who on Monday cited legal security, national competitiveness, the fight against corruption, transparency and public safety among the hurdles to bolster investment.

“I think we’re in a fantastic country. The Dominican Republic has a political stability that is what gives us much more confidence,” Grimaldo said Wed. night to opening the ZLC-RD Business Roundtable 2018 at the Intercontinental Hotel, which formally starts today Thursday.
