Dajabon, Dominican Republic.- The market Haitian and Dominican merchants held Monday and Friday, began early with throngs of buyers and heightened surveillance by Dominican military and police.
From 8am Friday Dominican and Haiti Customs gates were opened to allow the people to move freely.
Unlike last Monday more Haitians came to buy products in the local market on Friday, after their country’s social and political unrest began to subside.
Residents in the towns of Cap Haitien and Fort Liberté told diariolibre.com that after calm returned, they were able to go to the market in Dajabon.
Also spurring the brisk sales is the fact that Customs inspectors and police officers in Haiti are freely allowing the entry of merchandise which their compatriots bought on the Dominican side of the border.
