Deputies approve bill boosts protected areas

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Wed. approved the bill for the Payment for Environmental Services Law, which stipulates the main objectives of the National Protected Areas System.

One of the key objective is “to guarantee the environmental services derived from protected areas, such as carbon fixation, of the greenhouse effect, contribute to stabilize the climate and the sustainable use of energy.”

The bill, which president Danilo Medina is expected to sign into law, bolsters the payment for owners who maintain their land forested.
