Dream Casinos case judge says lawyer abandoned defendant

A. Carbone. File

Santo Domingo.- The National District 3rd Appellate Court on Thurs. ruled that the lawyers for Italian-Canadian businessman Antonio Carbone had abandoned his defense, in the case of attempted murder in 2014 of Dream Casinos Corporation’s general manager, Fernando Báez Guerrero.

The court, which hears Carbone’s appeal of his 20-year prison sentence, declared that the attorney Tomás Castro abandoned his defense, citing repeated absences without excuse.

The court set a new hearing for September 11, for Carbone to appoint another defender or be assisted by a representative of the Public Defender’s Office.

Castro justified his absence alleging that he was in another hearing.
